Pet Supplies Plus to add new services at larger location
03-05-2010
![]() VIENNA - Pet Supplies Plus will open at its new location on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna next week, with nearly 3,000 more square feet of space, dog grooming services and a self-serve dog wash.
Manager Sandy Wells, who has been with the company for 15 years, said the new location is an exciting addition to the community. "We've been looking for a new spot for a couple years now," she said. "It's a great location, right on the main drag and much more visible." The store will open at 601 Grand Central Ave. on March 11, but the grand opening celebration will be March 13 and14, with giveaways, coupons and specials. "We're really excited about it," she said. "The store will bigger and brighter, with a lot of new stuff." Pet Supplies Plus opened in 2004 on Murdoch Avenue next to TJ Maxx. The current location in Parkersburg has about 6,000 square feet. Once the new location is ready to open, the remaining products from the current location will be moved. Over the past two weeks, workers have been busy putting up the new sign and stocking shelves. "About half of our employees have been over at the new location all week stocking shelves and getting everything set up. We're almost done, but we still have some more work to do," said Wells. Store supervisor Julie Heater said the new store will include a four-station grooming service, a two-station self-serve pet wash and a new aquarium section with saltwater fish. "Grooming will be by appointment, but walk-ins are welcome to come. People can drop their dogs off and pick them up later, or they watch them through the full glass windows," said Heater. The dog wash, called the Paw-o-Mat, is an enclosed room with two large washing stations. Shampoo, conditioner, towels and hairdryers will be provided. "We provide all the cleaning materials. It's so much easier when you don't have to worry about getting your house all messy trying to wash your dog," said Heater. For the first time, the store will sell saltwater fish, including clownfish, Triggerfish, and Damsels. "We've had a big interest in saltwater fish. If we don't have something, we can always special order it," said Wells. Six sales representatives have been hired, and three or four groomers also will be added to the staff. "We will have some new products, but for the most part, our inventory will be the same," said Wells. "But everything will be bigger and better. Our aisles will be twice as wide, and the layout of the store is open and bright. Our customers are thrilled." |
