Circuit City building getting retooled

VIENNA - A Vienna developer is retooling a former Vienna electronics store to accommodate smaller retailers.

Pat Minnite Sr., president of the PM Co., said the former Circuit City store, which closed in January, is being divided into four smaller store fronts.

The space is located between Shoe Carnival and Pier 1 Imports.

Minnite said Pet Supply Plus, located at a shopping plaza across the street, has signed on to move in.

"They will be doubling their size," Minnite said. "They wanted more visibility and more space.

"They are pretty excited about getting out on Grand Central Avenue."

Minnite said the pet store should be open in February. And he expects to have the other three slots filled by spring. Minnite said another tenant is expected to sign a lease agreement in about a week. He declined to disclose the tenant until the paperwork is completed.

In January, Circuit City agreed to liquidate its merchandise in all 567 U.S. stores, including Vienna, after failing to find a buyer or refinancing deal. The company had filed for Chapter 11 protection in November 2008.

Minnite, who owns the lot, said the PM Co. has been searching for tenants.

"Basically, it is 30,000 square feet that we are dividing up into about four spaces. We are remodeling the interior and exterior."
